On-line Tour
Welcome to the on-line tour of CIER's green office, occupying the top two floors of an historic building in downtown Winnipeg. Please contact us if you are interested in touring the physical space.

Reception Area
One of the first things you notice about the office is the paint. Exciting colours were used in place of costly materials. CIER used a latex paint, certified as environmentally friendly by Canada's Environmental Choice Program, made here in Winnipeg by Northern Paint Canada. |
 |
Administration
This area houses our research, consulting and admin. offices, and was designed to take full advantage of the 12' ceilings and large south-facing windows. The original hardwood adorns most of the floor space, with carpet in areas like this isle. The carpet is carpet tile, manufactured in Canada by Interface. As they wear, the tiles are removed, replaced with new, and recycled. |
 |
| The cap on the walls is made with ISOBORD, a "Strawboard" product made from straw fibers and non-toxic resins at a plant in Manitoba. ISOBORD was used for all millwork including the reception desk, door trim, cupboards, and baseboards. |
 |
Boardroom
Plaster was removed from the outside wall in this room to expose the building's brickwork. The large windows (without blinds to let in lots of natural light), low energy halogen lights (seen here) and long-lasting compact fluorescent lighting (used throughout) combine to efficiently light the office. |
 |
Kitchen and eathing area:
These cupboards are another example of the use of ISOBORD. The floor covering here is a Interface product called Solenium. This product uses 35% less material per square meter, lasts twice as long, and can be 100% remanufactured into an identical product. |
 |
Washroom
One of the most unique environmental features of the office is the Clivus composting toilets. To see the composting units on floor below click here. The ceramic tile flooring in the bathroom, manufactured with 58% recycled glass content, was provided to us by TerraGreen Ceramics. |
