Founded in 1988, Chairman of the Boards produces custom woodwork and architectural millwork for the commercial, residential and institutional markets. The majority of our work comes from general contractors, as well as design and architectural firms.

The company has grown steadily from its inception and now employs a work force of sixteen. We currently employ one full time project manager and will be adding a second similar position in the coming months. We operate in a 7500 square foot shop which is divided into two sections. The first of these produces most of the commercial cabinets and plastic laminate counter-tops; the custom division is responsible for producing the more detailed and design-based items such as furniture, reception desks and other unique items.

The range of materials with which we work is not limited to wood and wood-based products. Many of our projects include glass, metal, plastic, stone and other natural and synthetic materials. Indeed, it is the combination of these often disparate elements that can create a piece that is both unique and appealing. This combination has been the hallmark of the furniture we have designed and built for our clients.

On the commercial side we have a highly efficient production facility which is capable of producing millwork for large-scale projects within the constraints of a compressed schedule. Using modern production techniques in combination with closely-monitored production scheduling, we are able to meet the demands of even the most rigorous construction schedules.

Among the projects we have completed in the past year are:

St. Boniface General Hospital Emergency Ward
Victoria General Hospital Renovations
Centre for Indigenous Environmental Resources
Sam Bucas Italian Restaurant
Golden West Broadcasting (Altona MB)
Two Duty Free Retail Stores, Winnipeg International Airport
McPhillips Street Station Addition
Pembina Fine Wines
Sun Life Offices
Lakeshore Hospital Dialysis Wing (Ashern MB)
Manitoba Teachers Society Renovation
Charleswood Personal Care Home
Red River Valley Lodge (Morris MB)
National Leasing
The work at CIER provided us with an opportunity to use standard building materials in an innovative application. The challenge inherent here provided us with an exciting opportunity, but more importantly, suggested some new ideas to an industry whose reliance on natural resources will shortly and of necessity be forced to adapt if it wishes to be sustainable in the future.
